LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Every team wants to win every game. Double that when you make it a rivalry game. Anybody who says otherwise might as well tell you they don't want to win the mega millions jackpot. In a few short hours Louisville and Kentucky will do battle in Rupp Arena. Both teams need the win, but who needs it more?
Neither the Cards or Cats have a quality non-conference win in their pocket. This is their last shot. Louisville has only played one quality team on the year, North Carolina, and they lost. Kentucky has played a much tougher schedule and are 0-3 against teams in the Top 25. Only time will tell if Boise State will become a quality win.
I say Kentucky needs this game more. Louisville has a group of veterans who are battled tested in a big game atmosphere. A loss today will not rattle the Cards confidence to potentially cut down the nets in Dallas. Even though it's a team still working in some new pieces, I feel they have a chance to win every time they step on the court.
Kentucky is a different story. Gone is the stigma this team is a can't miss squad. The Cats should be a much different team a month from now than where they are today but a fighter can only take so many shots to the face before be starts to flinch. This young Kentucky team needs a boost of confidence before they can truly take flight. If they never get it, they'll be a bunch of one and done prospects permanently grounded wondering what might have been.
We'll get our answer beginning at 4 o'clock.
