LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Assumption High School is head over heels after adding yet another state volleyball championship title.

Their current win marks the fourth title in the last four years. It’s their 18th in the last 22 years.

The seniors thanked fans, their parents and their legendary coach Ron Kordes whose wins have their own special banner but this year is especially sweet because the team got off to a slow start.

The girls went head to head Saturday night against Mercy and then winning it all the next day when they played Notre Dame.

The Rockets proved the doubters wrong and brought home the state title once again.

In essence, it meant never giving up. For the girls and their coach, this win was especially sweet because they weren’t the favorites.

Those fighting words were especially true today because the championship trophy came with one heck of a fight.

The volleyball team was not the only team to celebrate. The field hockey and cross country teams also won state titles.
