Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - So after months of silence on the subject of Karen Sypher, except for admitting his affair, why have we suddenly heard from Pitino?
?
It's because Wednesday metro police released their videotaped interview with Sypher.
She describes in detail the alleged rape she says happened six years ago at the restaurant Porcini's.
?
Pitino has not been charged with anything. The only person facing charges is Karen Cunigan Sypher. She's charged with extortion and lying to the FBI.
But in the interview she tells Sergeant Andy Abbott that Pitino raped her twice, told her to get an abortion and threatened her life.
"I was screaming. And I was screaming and I was screaming and I was screaming," she says.
??
That's how Karen Cunigan Sypher answers Sgt. Andy Abbotts' question when he asks her to explain her claim that U of L Coach Rick Pitino raped her at Porcini's restaurant in August of 2003.
?
"He pulled his pants down, I said, 'what are you doing, what are you doing?' and I said, 'no.' I'm just screaming..., and I remember. Okay, if I scream too loud am I gonna get killed? What's gonna happen? This is a powerful man.? And I pushed and I pushed and I pushed and I screamed and nobody was there," says Sypher.
?
Sypher told the investigator two weeks later she found out she was pregnant, with she claims, was Pitino's baby. She says when she told Pitino, he said:
?
'You do not have a choice on this matter. Your boys will be in concrete, and your family, and you.' and that's when I was just scared to death for the first time in my life. Then I knew how powerful he really was," she says.
?
She told Sgt. Abbott that Pitino raped her a second time at Tim Sypher's condo.
Then she says she had an abortion in Cincinnati.
?
Sgt. Abbott asks her several times why she decided to come forward now.
"I can't quit holding it in anymore; it's time to tell the truth. And I have to continue to fight no matter what they do," she answers.
When asked what she thinks should happen to Pitino, Sypher replies, "He should be the extortionist. He's a murderer and he's an extortionist, in my eyes."
?
Again, the commonwealth's attorney has not pressed charges against Pitino. During a follow up phone conversation between Sgt. Abbott and Karen Sypher, he tells her he's not sure she was sexually assaulted, that he thinks she was reaching for something. She told him, she was telling the truth.
