LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP/WHAS11) -- Horses are training under bright lights at Churchill Downs this week to prepare for the first night racing event to be held at the historic Louisville track.
"The Downs After Dark" debuts this Friday and will offer guests live entertainment in addition to the horse races.
Horses are training an hour earlier than normal a couple of times this week so that track officials can see how they react to the bright lights.
The early returns were good. Track operations vice president David Sweazy says some tinkering will have to be done to erase some shadows and "dim" spots on the turns.
Churchill has two more night racing events planned this summer -- one on June 26 and the other on July 2.
