Derby winner Mine That Bird set for Monday workout

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Calvin Borel is readying to saddle up Mine That Bird again.

The Kentucky Derby winning jockey is scheduled to mount his Derby winning horse Monday at Churchill Downs to begin preparations for the Aug. 1 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Racetrack.

The work will be the first for Mine That Bird since he finished third in the Belmont Stakes (on June 6. Trainer Chip Woolley plans to ship Mine That Bird to Mountaineer the third weekend of July in time to get in two breezes over the track in preparation the race.

Mine That Bird went twice around the main track Sunday with exercise rider Rudy Gallegos up.

Mine that Bird nearly beat Rachel Alexandra at the wire in the Preakness, losing by half a length, and finished third in the Belmont Stakes.
