CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds reconfigured their bullpen before the second game of their series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, optioning reliever Curtis Partch to Triple-A Louisville.
Partch had a rough time during a 13-3 loss to the Cardinals in the series opener on Friday night. He relieved Bronson Arroyo in the fourth inning and walked the first three batters he faced, two of them with the bases loaded. He then gave up a two-run double to Jon Jay.
Partch was 0-1 with a 5.89 ERA in 11 appearances.
The Reds called up reliever Pedro Villarreal, who will be in his third stint with the Reds this season. His only appearance was an emergency start on June 5 in place of the injured Johnny Cueto, a 12-4 loss to Colorado.
