CINCINNATI (AP) — Former Ohio State running back Dan Herron was among those cut by the Bengals to get down to their 53-man roster limit.

The sixth-round draft pick averaged only 1.7 yards per carry in the preseason. He ran 15 times for 29 yards during the final preseason game at Indianapolis on Thursday night.

Herron was one of 18 players waived on Friday. The most experienced in the group was linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy, a fourth-round pick in 2010 who missed last season with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Bengals also placed defensive tackle Pat Sims on the physically unable to perform list. He won't be able to practice for the first six weeks.

Linebacker Dontay Moch will miss the first four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
