(WHAS11)-- The 12th place finisher in the 140th Kentucky Derby was euthanized on Thursday.

Intense Holiday sat out of the Belmont Stakes after fracturing his right front leg during a workout at Belmont Park on May 25. He had surgery shortly after to fix the injury.

Not long after the surgery, Intense Holiday developed laminitis, a disease that affects the hoof area. This is why both Secretariat and Barbaro were euthanized as well.
