LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) - Junior midfielder Angelika Uremovich of the Louisville women’s soccer team was selected as the 2012 University of Louisville Homecoming Queen during Saturday’s halftime ceremony at the Cardinals’ football game against USF at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
Uremovich (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola) leads the Cardinals and ranks third in the BIG EAST Conference with nine goals this season. A three-year starter for Louisville, Uremovich has 18 career goals as a Cardinal. In the classroom, the sport administration major was named to the Dean’s List in two of her first three seasons at U of L.
The selection of Uremovich by U of L students marks the third straight year a Louisville student-athlete has been selected as either Homecoming Queen or King. Last year, Peyton Siva of the Cardinals’ men’s basketball team was crowned as king, while in 2010, Kyle Kuric of the Louisville men’s hoops squad was chosen as king.
Uremovich and the Cardinals closed their 2012 regular season slate on Friday night with a 2-1 double overtime win at home over rival Cincinnati. Louisville will open the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Championship on Sunday, Oct. 28 against USF in a quarterfinal matchup in Tampa, Fla.
