Sanders, Freeney closer to returning for Colts

08/18/2008

Associated Press

The Indianapolis Colts could soon have safety Bob Sanders and defensive end Dwight Freeney back on the field.

Sanders told reporters on Monday that he felt good and was ready to start practicing on Tuesday. Coach Tony Dungy says he expects both Sanders and Freeney to return to action by Wednesday at the latest.

Sanders had offseason shoulder surgery and Freeney underwent surgery on his foot in November. Neither has practiced since training camp opened July 24.

Quarterback Peyton Manning is not expected back this week, but Dungy said he thought Manning may be activated for practice next week.

The Colts have their first practice at the new Lucas Oil Stadium Tuesday morning.
