LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A new father will soon be laid to rest after being struck and killed by a train in southwestern Jefferson County.

The Valley Station accident on Wednesday has left many stunned including those who knew the young man and saw him every day.

Christopher Frazier had a baby girl in February; a new daughter and a new life in Valley Station. It all came to a sudden and shocking end on his walk home from work Wednesday evening.

One day after a fatal train accident in Valley Station we saw numerous people still walking the track; a common practice for those living nearby.

“It's kind of devastating to hear that it's kind of a shock you just don't know when it’s your time,” Robyn Stempien, neighbor of victim, said.

Stempien lives in the same apartment building as 21-year-old Frazier and his girlfriend.

Frazier was crossing the train tracks near Valley Station Road and Deering when he was struck and killed by a train. The coroner has ruled the crash an accident.

Frazier and his girlfriend were from Southern Indiana and recently moved to this neighborhood not far from Valley High School.

Frazier was walking home along the tracks with headphones on and didn't know the train was coming. He had just called his girlfriend four minutes before the crash and said he was on his way home from work.

Frazier's father left a very heartfelt message for his son on Facebook. Calling Wednesday the toughest day of his life, saying he had to see his son take his last breath.

Those who knew him say he was a remarkable young man he was on the path to success.
