LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With only three weeks remaining in the regular season, Louisville returns home to Cardinal Park for a pair of BIG EAST Conference games this weekend against Villanova and No. 11 Georgetown. The Cardinals will open the weekend on Friday at 7 p.m., ET against the Wildcats before concluding the homestand on Sunday at 1 p.m., against the Hoyas.
Sunday’s matchup against Georgetown will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network, while live video of Friday’s match with Villanova will be available to subscribers of CardsTV through UofLsports.com. Live scoring for both matches will be available through the women’s soccer schedule page at UofLsports.com.
“Pink Game” on Friday - Louisville will host its annual “Pink Game” for Breast Cancer Awareness on Friday night. The Cardinals will be wearing special pink uniforms from adidas and all breast cancer survivors can receive free admission if the RSVP by calling (502) 852-8466 or e-mailing BMUSEL01@louisville.edu.
Pack the Park on Sunday - All fans are encouraged to come out to Cardinal Park for Louisville’s nationally televised game against the Hoyas. Free admission will be given to all fans who donate a canned good to Dare to Care. Also, Cardinal Soccer Rally Towels will be given out to the first 300 fans through the gates.
Fans are encouraged to park in the Floyd Street Parking Garage directly across from Cardinal Park for $5 per car for Louisville women's soccer matches.
Friday’s match will be the eighth all-time between Louisville and Villanova with the Wildcats holding a 4-3-0 advantage in the series. In the last meeting between the two programs, the Cards earned a 3-2 double overtime win in Philadelphia in 2011. Sunday’s match will be the eighth meeting ever between Louisville and Georgetown with the Cardinals holding a 4-3-0 edge. In their last matchup in 2011, the Cardinals won a 2-1 double overtime decision in Washington, D.C.
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S OPPONENTS
Villanova enters Friday’s match at 5-6-2 overall and 3-2-0 in BIG EAST play after earning a 2-1 win at Pittsburgh last week. Georgetown enters the weekend at 11-1-1 overall and tied for first in the BIG EAST National Division with a 5-0-0 league mark after earning an 8-0 win over Pittsburgh last week.
LAST TIME OUT FOR LOUISVILLE
A late penalty kick goal from Angelika Uremovich was enough to help Louisville overcome an early deficit and earn a 1-1 draw at USF last Sunday in Tampa. Facing a 1-0 deficit, Uremovich connected on the PK in the 84th minute to even the score for the Cardinals.
CARDINALS FOURTH IN BIG EAST NATIONAL DIVISION STANDINGS
After suffering their second league loss of the season last Friday and earning a tie on Sunday, the Cardinals enter week four of the BIG EAST Conference race in fourth place in the National Division. Through six of 11 BIG EAST games, Louisville is averaging 1.3 points per game. Notre Dame and Georgetown lead the division at 3.0 points per game, while Villanova is third at 1.8 points per game. The top four teams from each division as well as the next two at-large teams based on points-per-game average will qualify to the 2012 BIG EAST Championship.
LOUISVILLE IN THE NCAA STATISTICS
After week seven of the regular season, Louisville remains among the top 40 nationally in multiple categories in the NCAA statistical rankings. As a team, the Cardinals are ranked 30th nationally in scoring offense at 2.25 goals per game. Individually, Angelika Uremovich is ranked 17th in the nation in total goals with nine, 23rd in goals per game at 0.75, 31st in total points with 20 and 31st in points per game at 1.67. Charlyn Corral is ranked 26th in total assists with six and 32nd in assists per game at 0.5. Erin Yenney is ranked 37th nationally in game-winning goals with three.
CARDINALS AT NO. 46 IN SECOND NCAA RPI RELEASE
The second set of 2012 NCAA women’s soccer RPI rankings were released on Monday evening and the Cardinals were positioned at No. 46 overall. Louisville is one of five BIG EAST Conference teams in the top 53 spots and among nine league squads in the top 100 positions. Leading the way is Notre Dame at No. 20 followed by Georgetown (No. 26), Louisville (No. 46), Marquette (No. 48), Rutgers (No. 53), Connecticut (No. 67), Providence (No. 89), Syracuse (No. 93) and USF (No. 96).
Following this weekend’s home matches, the Cardinals will return to the road for BIG EAST games at Rutgers (Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m., ET) and at Seton Hall (Oct. 14, 1 p.m.).
