LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- District 7 Councilmen Ken Fleming held a town hall meeting on Tuesday night to update residents about new and ongoing projects. Many residents showed up to voice concerns over the new VA Hospital project.

Residents said they feel left in the dark over the plans. Project Coordinator Joe Werner came from Washington, D.C. to address their questions. Several pertained to the size of the new site being smaller than the current site.

“Can you guarantee us in Crossgate that you will not claim eminent domain?” resident Irene Yeager said.

“No, I can't guarantee you that,” Werner said.

“I’m very angry. You know, they said in the beginning they wouldn’t take eminent domain. We have asked that question over and over. The local VA has not answered that question, they have not answered any of our questions,” Yeager said.

Werner was able to answer some questions. He told the crowd that they are currently reviewing multiple layouts for the site and they are committed to being good neighbors. He said they will decide on a final plan within the month.

“I would rather have the hospital behind my house than 300 apartments and a shopping center,” one resident said.

Werner said residents will be able to review the final layout and they will seek their input once they reach the design phase.
