LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville men’s team is on the board after the first day at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis,Ind. The Cards stand in 17th place.
The Cards 200-free relay team finished tenth when Joao De Lucca (19.55), Caryle Blondell (19.32), Kameron Chastain (19.82) and Samuel Hoekstra (19.25) combined for a 1:17.94.
Joao De Lucca improved three spots as he turned in a 19.72 for 13th place after winning a swim-off to make the field. The swim made him an Honorable Mention All-American.
The men's championships will be held March 28-30 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Indiana Sports Corporation and IUPUI will serve as the co-hosts. A total of 270 participants (235 swimmers and 35 divers) will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the swimming portion of the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers were determined by performances achieved at the NCAA Zone Diving meets March 11-17.
