LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It was a soggy Kentucky Derby with rain for most of the day, but thousands still poured into Churchill Downs for Derby 139.
This year new restrictions on what could be brought into Churchill Downs and more magnetic wand searches, but many people told WHAS11 the security lines moved smoothly and they appreciated the extra security. Women were also not allowed to bring purses bigger than 12 inches.
The most fashionable accessory were plastic ponchos.
From hats to dresses to even sport coats Derby goers covered their attire in plastic ponchos and many opting for clear ones to show off their clothes.
Vendors at this year's derby say they didn't see any negative impact from the weather, and some even said it boosted sales.
According to Churchill officials, more that 151,000 people attended the Derby.
