Poll:
Should dogs be banned from walking on the Big Four Bridge?

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- There is already a problem on the Big Four Bridge one day after the opening.

People are not picking up after their dogs on the bridge, forcing pedestrians to watch their step, "You're looking over the river and the next thing you know is you've stepped in something not so nice," Vanessa Hillerich said.

City crews have had to clean the bridge three separate times since it opened Thursday because of the large amount of dog poop. Crews also had to pressure wash the bridge early Friday morning.

"I can't understand how somebody can be walking with their pet...and walk past a pile of doo?" Waterfront Development Vice President Mike Kimmel said.

On Friday, Sara Sholz, was walking her dog and noticed a messy pile. "We found someone else's dog waste. We passed it going up and going down...I had an extra bag so I picked it up," Sholz said.

Since the $12 million bridge opened 24 hours ago residents said they were disappointed some are not being respectful of the attraction.

“I'm just shocked people would do that [and] let their animal do that on the brand new bridge," Cherie Doyle said.

According to Kimmel, city officials plan on meeting soon to discuss how to address his problem. Kimmel says they may end up banning dogs all together from the bridge.
