LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- There was confusion and disbelief Tuesday morning on Larry Lane in Okolona as word spread that their neighbor was shot and killed inside his home during the early morning hours.
The victim’s identity has not been released, but police say he was a black male in his 20’s or 30’s.
“I can tell you his girlfriend was inside the house along with four children who are all under the age of 12,” said LMPD spokesperson, Alicia Smiley. “Fortunately, none of them were injured.”
Police say the homicide does not appear to have stemmed from a domestic dispute and the girlfriend is not a suspect. But, she was visibly upset as two officers assisted her into a police car.
“I’ve never seen any kind of problems or anything,” said Don Strong, who lives three houses down from the shooting. “The little kid comes down here and waits for the school bus every morning. They are just good neighbors as far as I know.”
Yellow tape closed off the 6500 block of Larry Lane for several hours. By sunrise, investigators were still on the scene combing inside and out of the house looking for any clues that might help solve the latest homicide in the normally quiet Okolona neighborhood.
“I’ve never had any problems with them or anybody else around here,” said Strong. “It’s just a good neighborhood to live in to tell you the truth.
Police have not confirmed if there was a home invasion prior to the shooting. Police say they need to question the girlfriend about the suspect or suspects.
Still, no arrests have been made.
