LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Embattled Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin has filed a lawsuit against Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
Shanklin's attorney, Aubrey Williams, says that the mayor is withholding documents and that it is not allowing Shanklin to have due process.
Shanklin is accused of ethics violations centering around her family and whether or not they benefited financially from her seat on the council.
The Metro Ethics Commission is having a hearing on Thursday and Williams is asking the members to delay making a decision about whether or not she can remain on the council until the lawsuit is resolved.
The mayor's office declined to comment on the suit because of the ongoing ethics commission hearings.
