LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A settlement was reached between the Louisville Metro Police Department and the family of Sarah Bearden in relation to a fatal accident in 2010 involving an off-duty officer.
Bearden was hit and killed on Hurstbourne Parkway in May 2010. A police report showed Detective James Adams, who was off duty, was driving more than 80 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. The same report showed Bearden had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and failed to yield the right of way.
Sources tell WHAS11 that the LMPD has agreed to pay $700,000 to the Beaden family. This settlement avoids a costly trial.
Adams was suspended for 30 days without pay in January 2011.
