Louisville point guard Shoni Schimmel was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. It is Schimmel’s third weekly honor this season.
Schimmel finished the week averaging 13 points and nine assists per game, helping the Cardinals to a 2-0 week. She recorder her second straight double-double with 11 points and 11 assists against No. 18/18 St. John’s, adding four steals and two rebounds. Against Pittsburgh she had 13 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals.
For the week she connected on 83.3 percent from the foul line while also grabbing 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. Schimmel’s seven assists against Pitt, give her 30 in the last three contests, the highest three-game total for a Louisville player since 2001.
