ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The parents of a three-month-old baby are facing child abuse charges after police say the boy was severely abused.

Eighteen-year-old Alexander Irwin and 19-year-old Jessica Capponi of Elizabethtown were arrested Tuesday.

Police said they were called out to Ireland Community Hospital in reference to an abused infant. That’s when it was discovered the baby suffered a skull fracture, a broken femur, had multiple bruises and was extremely malnourished.

Police also said the child had not been seen by a doctor since a few days after birth and when he was brought to the hospital he weighed less than he did at birth.

The baby was transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

Both parents are being housed in the Hardin County Detention Center and are charged with criminal abuse – Irwin is facing additional assault charges.
