(WHAS11) -- Papa John's is facing a $250,000,000 class action lawsuit over alleged spam texts.
Customers said the Louisville based pizza chain sent out a half-million unwanted spam texts. One of the plaintiffs said Papa John's never asked permission to text the advertisements - a practice banned by the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991.
The plaintiffs are seeking $500 for each text, but could get up to $1,500 per text if the jury rules Papa John's willfully broke the law.
The company's corporate office said they were not involved because the lawsuit involves a small number of their franchisees.
