LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A 17-year-old boy is now in custody. Shively Police say he’s responsible for a deadly shooting earlier this month that left one man dead and a woman injured. They’re calling it a street-level drug transaction that turned deadly.

The day after 23-year-old Tony Grady was murdered, his mother Lauree Sensley talked about the pain of losing her son.

“Knowing I’m not going to be able to talk to him no more, not being able to talk to him, because I talk to him every day. Now I won’t be able to do that,” she said.

Grady was shot and killed on October 3rd while sitting in a car outside of the Chalet Village apartment complex in Shively. A woman in the car with him was also shot, but lived.

Sergeant Josh Myers said, “Investigators have been working this case since that day, combing through evidence, witness testimony, things of that nature.”

Less than a month later, police arrested the 17-year-old boy for the crime. Because of his age, his name cannot be released.

The arrest brought some relief for Grady’s family. “They were elated,” Sergeant Myers said, “I think anytime you’re dealing with the kind of loss that they are, knowing that the person responsible is going to be put through the system and hopefully justice will prevail, I think that’s a feeling of satisfaction.”

Grady left behind one young son. “Whoever took my son, they took him away from his baby. He just had a baby who was four months old. So, he’ll never know his daddy,” Sensley said.

Sensley said in an email Thursday, the pain of losing her son is still unbearable.

The suspect has been charged with murder, assault, robbery, and tampering with physical evidence. Police say the case will start in Juvenile Court, but the department will work with the Commonwealth’s Attorney to move it to Circuit Court where he could be tried as an adult.
