LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Dozens of Metro officers are undergoing drug diversion training this week in order to learn why people abuse substances and how to recognize signs of abuse.
Officers said one of the most common drugs they see abused is the prescription narcotic hydrocodone. The pill is used to treat pain under brand names like Vicodin.
Officers said they often see young people use the pills and they typically get them from friends and family for free or swipe the pills from medicine cabinets.
LMPD is encouraging parents to lock up prescription drugs in their houses and properly dispose of medicines they don't need any more as a means of prevention.
