CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Indiana Conservation Officers have identified a man whose car sank into a pond after veering off the road Saturday night.

Officials say 62-year-old John Vausha from Ramsey, Indiana died after his car veered off State Road 64 near Taswell and into a pond behind Ponders Boat Sales and Services.

Rescue workers were able to break one of the car’s windows and pull the victim onto a boat where attempts to revive him with CPR were unsuccessful.

He was airlifted to Harrison County Hospital and pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed Vausha died before his car hit the water. The coroner said he died of cardiac arrest.
