University of Louisville women’s lacrosse head coach Kellie Young announced Monday the addition of George Mason transfer Anna Kopecka to the Cardinals’ 2012 incoming class.

“I am thrilled that Anna will be transferring to Louisville and joining our lacrosse family,” Young said. “She fits with everything that defines our program – academically motivated, socially aware and athletically driven. She is a tremendous addition and we hope will have an immediate impact on our success.”

Kopecka, who was recently named to the Czech Republic national team for the 2013 World Cup, comes to Louisville after a strong two seasons with the Patriots. While there, she played in 31 games, starting 17, and scored 29 goals. In 2011, her freshman season, she was named to the Colonial Athletic Association all-Rookie Team after registering 22 goals, two assists and winning 25 draw controls. That year, Kopecka earned league rookie of the week accolades in March after scoring the game-winning goal in a double-overtime contest against Columbia.

Prior to George Mason, Kopecka spent only one season in the country after coming over from the Czech Republic. In her lone prep year in 2009, she lettered in cross country, track and lacrosse at T.C. Williams High in Virginia. She received first team all-Patriot district honors and Washington Post all-Met girl’s honorable mention accolades in lacrosse, while being named to the DC Metro National second team.

In addition to her prep and collegiate careers, the product from Prague, Czech Republic, has played an instrumental role on the Czech Republic World Cup teams since 2007. In 2009, she earned MVP honors in the World Cup versus Germany.

Kopecka has two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be immediately eligible to play. She is the 10th member of the Cardinals class for the 2012-13 season that consists of Blair Bernhardt (Annapolis, Md.), Cortnee Daley (Horsham, Pa.), Courtney Boyd (Bayville, N.Y.), Erika Eipp (Groton, Mass.), Kelli Gerding (Jarrettsville, Md.), Kaylin Morissette (Bowmanville, Ontario), Laura Patterson (Severna Park, Md.), Emily Ryan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Kayla Sleece (Chesapeake, Va.).
