JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The Jeffersonville Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened in the 1900 block of Village Green Boulevard leaving one man with life threatening injuries according to the Jeffersonville Police Department.

The victim’s mother was in tears afraid her 27-year-old son will die.

“He’s my baby,” the victim’s mother said. “I don’t know what I’m going to do if something happens to him. I just don’t understand.”

Her son, Ahmari Scott, was shot once at the Las Casitas Apartments late Tuesday night. He was taken to University Hospital and remains in critical condition. Police said an argument between two families who live at the apartments led to the shooting.

”We know a part of this situation happened outside the apartment and a part of this situation happened inside the apartment,” Detective Todd Hollis with the Jeffersonville Police Department said. “We’re still investigating how the sequence of events happened.”

Police said the shooter has not been charged and is cooperating with authorities.

Scott’s mother is frustrated because her family moved to Jeffersonville one year ago to escape the violence in Chicago.

“I have a son that got shot in Chicago about this time last year,” the victim’s mother said. “My baby is 24 and I am not going to go through this anymore.”
