LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) -- WHAS11 has just learned the name of a man killed in an accident on Interstate 71 that happened just after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The coroner has identified the victim as 31-year-old Kenneth Goldsmith of Louisville.
“The driver for some unknown reason lost control of the vehicle and struck the retaining wires (in the median), then spun back into traffic and was struck by another pickup truck (also traveling) northbound,” said Metro Police public spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.
Goldsmith was driving a white pickup truck and was killed at the scene. The driver of the other pickup truck was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
We're told Goldsmith was an employee of Rescue Rangers, which are independent contractors for AAA.
The northbound lanes of I-71 near the crash were shut down for several hours. Rubberneckers had southbound travelers at a near halt during the morning rush hour.
Metro Police say it is not clear whether both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Investigators are waiting for toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
