DEARBORN CO., Ind. (WHAS11 and news release) -- Indiana State Police have arrested four men they said are responsible for a cock fighting operation.

Police said they stopped two vehicles on I-74 Friday which appeared to be traveling together. Once the vehicles were stopped, troopers said they discovered the van contained 21 roosters and the other vehicle had several items commonly associated with cock fighting.

Five adults and three juveniles were in the vehicles, but police only arrested four men:
28-year-old Jesus Reyes, 45-year-old Vidal Sanchez, 43-year-old David Sanchez and 27-year-old Frederico Rojas, all of Lafayette, were arrested Friday afternoon.

As the investigation continued, police said they learned the group was heading for Lexington, Ky. where the suspects planned to sell them for the purposed of cock fighting.

Those arrested were taken to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center and the roosters were turned over to Dearborn County Animal Control.

All four men are charged with 21 counts of conspiracy to possess a fighting animal (Class D Felony) and one count of possession of fighting animal paraphernalia (Class B Misdemeanor).
