(WHAS11) -- Firefighters are still on the scene of a fire that broke out early Friday morning at a home near Fisherville, Ky.
Emergency crews were called out to the 4800 block of Routt Road around 4 a.m. after a neighbor spotted the fire and called 911.
Three fire departments are at the scene - Jeffersontown, Eastwood and Middletown - and have the fire under control.
Firefighters said conditions made the fire difficult to control.
"The stairwell to the second floor was totally burnt out and our firefighters weren't able to make access to the second floor, so, our firefighters had to back out due to fire conditions and structure conditions," Jeffersontown fire chief Sean Dreisbach said.
No one was at the home when the fire broke out, but Dreisbach said a neighbor has been in contact with the family who is reported to be out of town.
Dreisbach said the fire started on the first floor of the two-story home and spread to the second floor. He said it is too early to tell what sparked the fire.
The home, firefighters said, is heavily damaged.
