LOUISVILLE, Ky -- Cardinal Stadium, once Louisville's premier sports and entertainment venue, will eventually be demolished according to a plan revealed today by the Kentucky State Fair Board.
In an announcement made to today, the State Fair Board said that the grandstands are too unsafe for spectators to sit. Concert attendees will now be on the field instead of the grandstands.

The stadium is now solely used for Kentucky State Fair concerts. For 40 years, from 1957 to 1997, the fairgrounds stadium was home to the University of Louisville football team.
It was also home to two minor league baseball teams, the Louisville Colonels from 1968 to 1972 and the Redbirds from 1982 until 2000.
There is no exact time-frame for the demolition of the stadium, but the Fair Board says that is the long-term plan.
