Rachel Platt

Anchor

Rachel says the best part of her job is telling stories. She joined WHAS-TV in 1989.

She returned to co-anchoring Good Morning Kentuckiana and the noon newscast after anchoring the evening shows for two years.

Her awards include Best of Louisville Awards for Morning Anchor and Morning Show.

She has also received four Emmy awards for her reporting. One of those awards came from her trip to Vietnam. Rachel followed a group of veterans from Bardstown back to their battlefield as they came to terms with their losses.

Rachel also received an Emmy for her work with the Homicide Department with Louisville Metro Police.

Rachel has traveled extensively with the station including trips to Vietnam, Sarajevo, Los Angeles and Guadeloupe when Tori Murden became the first American to row across the Atlantic Ocean .

Several of her stories with Martha Elston and her daughter's right to die led to changes in Kentucky law.

Some of Rachel's favorite stories include people who have taken tragedy and reached out to help others - like the case of Martha Elston or Pat Byron whose daughter was murdered.

Rachel was an Air Force brat and says moving around so much forced her to make friends quickly and not be shy when getting to know people. She says it was the perfect training ground for becoming a reporter.

Rachel is involved in several organizations in the community including The American Heart Association.

Her father's death due to heart disease led to her emceeing the Go Red Luncheon.

She is also involved with OAK, Family Place and the Mary Byron Foundation to name a few.

Her biggest pride and joy is her family - her two sons and husband.
