Johnny Archer joined WHAS11 News as a reporter who joined the team in February 2011. He finds his job to be rewarding, but also knows it comes with great responsibility to serve the community. Johnny enjoys working with people and helping kids find their talents and achieve their dreams.
Johnny’s dream began in his hometown of West Chester, Pennsylvania, a city outside of Philadelphia. His desire to become a broadcaster propelled him to attend Delaware County Community College and then Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Johnny is the third generation to attend Temple University. While at Temple, Johnny was very active in the broadcast industry. He had his own news radio show for two years on WHIP, interned for CBS 3 and WRDW-FM and was an anchor and reporter for Temple’s television stations, Temple Update and Owl Access.
Johnny was also an announcer for the Philadelphia Wings, which is an indoor lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League. He worked for various production companies, including TUV Online, where he hosted and produced segments targeted for college students.
After graduating from Temple University with a degree in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media, Johnny got a job at KPVI News Channel 6 in eastern Idaho. At KPVI, Johnny was a reporter and an anchor for the weekend newscast; one of his most memorable stories in eastern Idaho was flying with the U.S. Navy’s renowned Blue Angels. He said he will never forget the wonderful people he met in Idaho and the friendships he still maintains with some of them today. Johnny was in eastern Idaho for almost two years when the doors opened at WHAS11 in Louisville.
He said he felt an immediate connection to the city when he came to visit and knew Louisville was the perfect fit for him. Johnny lives in the Highlands and can be found jogging through Cherokee Park, or eating at one of Louisville’s unique restaurants. He also enjoys standup comedy and live music; he’ll listen to everything from hip-hop to classical. He also enjoys working out, playing lacrosse, skiing and spending time with family and friends.
Johnny is a thrill-seeker and has a love for roller coasters. The next thing on his “to do” list is to go skydiving. Johnny’s motto is “work hard, have fun and enjoy life.” So, the next time you see him on the street, don’t be shy... say, “Hi.”
