LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A Southern Indiana WWII veteran was honored on Wednesday for his military service nearly 70 years ago.
Frank “Buster” Crockett was awarded the Medal of Honor from the French Legion for helping free the people of France from the Nazis and saving a family taken prisoner by a German soldier.
“I will cherish this day, this hour, till my last breath,” Crockett said.
Crockett has also been awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his WWII service.
He said the recognition from the French Legion is a great honor and mentioned his love for the people of France and said he would never forget his time spent at war.
