LONDON (AP) — British police say detectives from Scotland Yard's counterterrorism team are in Libya as part of the ongoing investigation into the 1984 killing of policewoman Yvonne Fletcher.

Fletcher was policing a protest outside Libya's embassy in London when an unidentified shooter from within the embassy fired on the crowd, killing her and wounding 10 others.

The fall of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi's government after last year's pro-democratic uprisings in the North African country has reawakened interest in the Fletcher case.

Scotland Yard said Tuesday that two officers are in Tripoli and will meet authorities there after Libyan officials last week asked British detectives to return as soon as possible.

The killing poisoned relations between Britain and Libya, leading to an 11-day siege of the embassy and a break in diplomatic relations.
