USS New York created with 7.5 tons of steel from twin towers

MAYPORT, Fla. -- On Sunday, September 11, the crew of USS New York (LPD 21) will hold a remembrance ceremony at Naval Station Mayport marking the 15th anniversary of the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001 and honor the dedication and duty for those that lost their lives in the aftermath of those attacks.

USS New York, a San Antonio-class LPD, is one of three ships that make up the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) that shifted homeports to Naval Station Mayport in December 2013.

USS New York is forged with 7.5 tons of steel from the wreckage of the twin towers in her bow stern.
