Men killed in crash on S.R. 111 in Floyd Co., Ind. identified

SR 111 south is closed following a fiery crash that killed two people

FLOYD CO., Ind.  (WHAS11) – The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department identified the men who were killed in a crash in the 300 block of State Road 111 on Nov. 26.

The sheriff’s department said 27-year-old Schuyler Benjamin of Indianapolis, Ind. was driving northbound on S.R. 111 and crossed the center line striking a silver 2002 Ford Toyota truck. 

The driver in the truck was identified as 31-year-old Joseph Simpson of Bardstown, Ky. He was headed southbound when he was struck by Schuyler, the sheriff’s department said. 

The sheriff’s department said their preliminary investigation shows the Explorer “was passing improperly in a no passing zone” at the time of the crash. 

It is not known if alcohol or drugs factored into this crash. Toxicology tests are pending. 
The drivers were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
