(ABC News) -- The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 1 cent overnight to $3.23, a low for the year. The price is less than a penny more than at this time last year.
Below is some more information for drivers as the Christmas holiday travel season picks up:
REGIONAL SPOTLIGHT:
Gas prices in the lower Atlantic states range from an average of $3.02 in South Carolina to $3.35 in West Virginia, according to AAA. Prices in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia are a couple cents or more lower than a year ago. Georgia and West Virginia are higher.
ENJOY THE SAVINGS:
The average household uses about 62 gallons of gas a month, according to Oil Price Information Services. At Wednesday's national average, that's about $200 a month. But the government estimates that gas has averaged about $3.62 over the course of this year, which translates to monthly spending of $224.
ABOUT AVERAGE:
North Dakota and North Carolina are closest to the national average at $3.22 a gallon. Nebraska and Wisconsin are at $3.21, AAA says, while gas is selling for an average of $3.25 in Florida and Utah.
