FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (WHAS11) -- In an effort to support soldiers and families, particularly during deployments, Operation Homelink is donating 100 refurbished laptops and webcams to family members of the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Ky.

The donating will occur at the Family Resource Center at 1501 William C Lee Road in Fort Campbell on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Most service members have e-mail access on ships and even in desert outposts, but that doesn't mean their loved ones at home do.  Operation Homelink expedites the communication process by providing a computer to the spouse, child or parents of service members.

Operation Homelink is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization founded in the fall of 2002 with a mission of facilitating e-mail communication between service members deployed overseas and their families back home.

With the help from supporters, including Fluor Raytheon, Dell, and Southwest Airlines,Operation Homelink has already distributed more than 7,100 computers to military families, wounded warriors and unemployed veterans across the U.S.
