Support continues to pour in for Donut King owner after being shot in the head

Local business donates tips to Donut King

MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The show of support for the Donut King in Mt. Washington continues to pour in after someone shot the owner twice in the head.

The shop on Highway 44 has been closed since the incident early Wednesday morning, but other businesses are stepping up to help the owner, Simon Yeung, and his family.

Inside the store is considered a crime scene but on the outside, a passerby will find a makeshift memorial.

Notes wishing Simon Yeung, "a quick recovery," reminding his family, "you are loved," and the community is "praying for you."

"We just want him to get better. That’s all we want," Marilyn Young, who works next door said.

Mt. Washington cafe Maggie Mae's is donating all cash tips on Friday and Saturday to Simon Yeung and his family. On Friday the lunch line was out the door. Most of the customers were there to show support for the local shop owner during his time of need.

Customer, Amy Baker said, "Just about everybody that I’ve talked to while I’ve been in here were all tipping for him, specifically."

Maggie Mae's owner said she wanted to support the family, knowing they wouldn't be open for a while and how difficult that can be in a small business.

Those inside, said they too wanted to help out.

"I wanted to come help local businesses. It’s a town full of small businesses," Baker said.

Bullitt East High School students decorated the shop's storefront with notes from students and staff and left a bouquet of flowers at the door. The school announced Friday they've raised more than $3,500 for the family.

All of the efforts were not lost on the family, who were thanking the community for the support from the hospital.
