LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- You wear them every day, but the Speed Art Museum hopes to make you look at your shoes a little differently.
The museum on UofL's campus opens its exhibition, Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture, this Saturday.
The exhibit takes a look at the history and design evolution of the sneaker from the mid-1800s until today.
You can see everything from a 1860s spiked running shoe to the original Nike Air Force 1--even sneakers from the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky.
The exhibit will also give back to the community. If you bring in a pair of new or gently used sneakers, you'll get $1 off admission to the exhibit. Those shoes will then be donated to Water Step, which turns the donations into funding for drinking water projects in developing countries.
The Out of the Box exhibit will be at the museum from Saturday until November 27.
