Vertical Horizon is best known for their hit “Everything You Want” which earned the #1 spot on the Billboard’s Hot 100 and went on to become the most played song of 2000. They will be joined by another well-loved alternative rock band, Blind Melon who broke onto the scene with the smash hit “No Rain” and earned both Grammy and American Music Award nominations.
Having won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in history, EnVogue is an R&B and pop legend. They have sold more than 8 million albums and are best known for hits like “Hold On” and “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get it).”
Chevelle is a perennial alternative rock favorite. They have released 6 albums and sold more than 4 million copies in the U.S. With their most recent album, Hats Off to the Bull, Chevelle has continued to evolve as a band. When the first single “Face to the Floor” was released, it quickly became the #1 most added record at Active and Alternative Rock radio.
The Oak Ridge Boys, a Kentucky State Fair favorite, perform for the 37th consecutive year. With four-part harmonies and country roots, 12 of the group’s albums have gone gold, three platinum and one double-platinum.
Contemporary Christian favorite Casting Crowns has sold more than 5 million records. Formed as a student worship band, they burst onto the scene in 1999 and quickly took over Christian music. In 2009, Until the Whole World Hears debuted at #4 on the Billboard’s 200 and sold over 167,000 copies in its first week alone, setting a new record for the highest Christian album debut in history.
For country fans, there is a lot offered. Clay Walker, a country star since his debut in 1993, has released 11 albums and charted 30 singles. The other country bands and singers, Parmalee, Jerrod Niemann, Thomas Rhett and Kelsey K, represent some of the rising stars of country music. To add to the great lineup of country acts, Kentucky’s own Montgomery Gentry, famous for 14 Top 10 singles, including five songs that have hit the #1 spot, will perform at the festivities.
The Happy Together Tour returns this summer, bringing back some of the top performers of the 1960s including The Turtles, Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Mark Lindsay, former leader singer for Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Gary Lewis. Between all five artists they have over 60 top 40 hits, including six #1 songs.
Platinum-selling quartet Theory of a Deadman has solidified their place at the top of modern hard rock. Off of their breakthrough album Scars and Souvenirs, “Bad Girlfriend” became a #1 Mainstream Rock radio hit.
Hailing from Edmonton, KY, Black Stone Cherry will bring their unique Southern Rock sound to Cardinal Stadium. In their most recent album the band used everything from turkey calls to washtub basins to create a distinct and original musical offering.
All shows will begin at 8 p.m. and gates will open at approximately 6:30 p.m. and are free with Kentucky State Fair gate admission. For a complete listing of events and attractions visit http://www.kystatefair.org. The Kentucky State Fair is August 15-25.
