Firemen rushed to the scene of a large home fire in the 2700 block of S. 5th Street near Churchill Downs early Tuesday evening.

A 1 1/2 story home caught on fire and the blaze quickly spread to the house next door.

The fire department was successful in taming the blaze and had the fire under control after about 20 minutes.

Crews used a chainsaw to cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the fire.

The damage looks to be extensive in both homes and fire crews will be working to clean up debris for several hours.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
