The next signature float added to the Bacchus lineup was the Bacchagator, which made its debut in 1986. It borrowed its inspiration and even some of its pieces from the 1984 World's Fair, and the huge alligators that were on display there. The 105-foot, three-piece float can accommodate more than 85 riders. The gator was originally green but was turned white in 1997, in honor of the rare white alligators at the Audubon Zoo and Aquarium of the Americas. According to Bacchus, the alligator returned to green in the 2005 parade and remains that way today.
