(KMOV.com) – A flash flood warning has been issued for Lincoln County after a levee was breached near Winfield on Friday afternoon.
The Bob’s Creek Levee is not a mainline Mississippi River levee, but blocks water from the creek. As river levels rose, the creek backed up, and a 150-foot section of the levee failed.
The levee was not sandbagged. Currently, the floodwater is pouring only into farm fields, but the town and an estimated 30 homes are in the path of the water. Fire and police officials are going door to door to warn residents they should consider moving to higher ground.
A flash flood warning was issued for Lincoln County until 12 a.m. Saturday.
While officials say it is not an urgent emergency, homes in the path of the breach are expected to see flooding as waters rise.
