Final preparations are made before installation of the annual Blackpool Illuminations. Every year Blackpool attracts over 3 Million visitors, many of whom come to witness the famous illuminations, which started back in 1879 with a display of eight arc lamps. Around 100 miles of party lights, 200 miles of wiring, 5,000 floodlights and in excess of one million lamps make up the display, which when completed stretch approximately six miles along the Lancashire sea side town promenade. The display will run from August 31 - November 4, 2012.
