LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Attorney General Jack Conway has won the Democratic nomination in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race and will face tea party Republican Rand Paul in this fall's general election.
With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Conway had 44 percent of the vote to Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo's 43 percent.
Conway, a Louisville attorney and businessman before being elected attorney general three years ago, spent more than $2.4 million on the race.
Paul defeated Republican establishment favorite Trey Grayson in the Republican primary, a closely watched race that was a test of the tea party movement's strength.
