DIVIDE, Colo. (WHAS11) -- The race for mayor of Divide, Colo. is turning into a real zoo, so to speak.

There are 11 mayoral candidates but not a single one is human.

The current mayor, a three-legged cat name Walter, must give up his reign because his term is up.

Another cat and a few dogs are vying to the city's top spot, as well as a wolf, a donkey and a hedgehog.

Sounds like a joke, but it's not. The small town doesn't really have a mayor, the election serves as a fundraiser for a no-kill shelter with each vote costing $1.

"The last election we made about $8800 and right now we're right at $9000," Nancy Adams, fundraising coordinator said.
