LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- A group of New Albany eighth graders have been met with some disappointment on their long-planned field trip to Washington D.C.
The students from Our Lady Perpetual Help were able to look at some monuments from a distance and even go to the capital last night as Congress voted, but today, due to the government shutdown, they have considered their trip ruined.
One of the kids said they were not able to tour the Capitol building, the Pentagon or visit the Holocaust Museum.
A parent with the field trip said he would like to “see Congress work as hard as these kids did to get here.”
The students will be flying back to Louisville Thursday to head back to New Albany.
