LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Obama administration is getting encouragement Wednesday from the U.S. Senate's top Republican.

In Louisville Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said going after ISIS into Iraq and Syria is a good idea.

The following is McConnell’s entire statement: “I think the President is heading in the right direction. It's pretty obvious from these two beheadings that these people wish us ill. We know from intelligence reports that they have the ability to hit us here in the United States. And I hope the president will come up with a plan submitted to Congress next week and I think it's highly likely that we are going to be interested in supporting him. He needs to remind everybody that this is not just some Middle Eastern dispute here. These are people that want to kill us here at home.We had this experience once on 9/11. We don't want to have it again.”

McConnell was also honored on Wednesday by the Kentucky Narcotics Officers Association as its "Federal Legislator of the Year."
